- Benjamin Millepied
- Benjamin Millepied is a choreographer, filmmaker, and former professional dancer. It was during his distinguished 16-year career as a dancer with the New York City Ballet, where he rose to the rank of principal dancer, that Mr. Millepied began creating choreographic works. Since then, Mr. Millepied’s choreography has been commissioned and performed by major dance companies including the New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, the Paris Opera Ballet, and the Mariinsky Ballet, among others. Following his formal retirement as a dancer in 2011, Mr. Millepied moved to Los Angeles where he founded L.A Dance Project, an innovative platform comprised of an internationally acclaimed dance company, a performance space in L.A.’s Arts District, and a program of media initiatives. Mr. Millepied is also the co-founder of Artform, a tech start-up company with a mission to support and promote artists across all artistic disciplines. In 2013, the Paris Opera Ballet appointed Mr. Millepied as its Director, and there Mr. Millepied programmed a number of highly successful seasons before stepping down in 2016 to focus more fully on L.A. Dance Project and his own work as a choreographer and filmmaker. As a filmmaker, Mr. Millepied has directed and produced numerous short films and is currently working on two feature films, one of which will be a musical adaptation of Carmen, to be produced in 2019.
